Project description

The educational activities of BEFARe have enjoyed the direct support of GTZ/ BMZ through various interventions from 1989 to 2006. The support was provided under the bilateral agreement between the Government of Pakistan and Federal Republic of Germany. Major projects included basic education in both the formal and non-formal sectors including curriculum and material development, teacher trainings, community development, general management and administration as well as provision of technical expertise in related fields.

In Formal Education these efforts have resulted in more than 9,000 trained teachers in various subjects for Grade 1 to Grade 6. These teachers have taught more than 500,000 students of formal education. While in the Non-Formal Education activities have benefited 81,895 women participants that have been trained in Mother Child Health (MCH) while more than 72,000 male and female literacy participants were provided training through specific NFE courses from 1989 to 2003. Over 36,000 boys and girls have also been provided with home school courses. Schools curriculum comprising of text books, teacher guides were also developed / provided for teachers and students of Grades 1 to 6. These guides have also been used by other international NGOs engaged in refugee education.

A notable development of the project is also the publication of a catalogue listing all the project developed material including text books, teacher guides, training manuals and a variety of other material with multiple educational objectives. These books, 125 in all, are available and have been used by international agencies and partners in refugee education
