Project description
The aim of the RAHA (Refugees Affected and Hosting Areas) program is to promote Regional stability and compensate for the social, economic and environmental consequences wrought on Pakistani communities by the presence of more than 3 million Afghans over the past 30 years. BEFARe under RAHA Program initiated this project in peshawar district and malaknad division to assist 15 government schools through multi-faceted immediate response initiative addressing infrastructure rehabilitation and renovation needs. It will quickly respond to short and long term school renovation, infrastructure rehabilitation and renovation needs for school improvement and learning in 15 schools while it will also establish 8 computer laboratories in High and Higher Secondary Schools. The initiative will also seek to establish School Management Committees (SMCs) in accordance with the Ministry of Education (MoE), and train teachers in INEE Minimum Standards for Education in Emergencies (MSEE). BEFARe aims to address the distrust and lack of confidence between local and refugee communities by intervening with an innovative program that provides an equal opportunity to youth from Pakistani communities hence addressing the reasons of distrust and disharmony between both communities. The program will also cover areas that are affected by the conflict in Malakand division. The proposed action, besides focusing on rehabilitation and renovation need, will also seek to organize School Management Committees (SMCs) and establish computer laboratories at 8 government (High and Higher Secondary) schools amongst the already identified 15 government schools for infrastructure support. BEFARe under RAHA initiative will undertake this project in two components.
Component-I: BEFARe will assist 15 Government schools by addressing short and long term rehabilitation and infrastructure support needs contributing to improved school environment; and organizing SMCs in accordance with the Ministry of Education (MoE) standards and address basic needs at these schools.
Component-II: BEFARe will establish 8 computer laboratories in (High and Higher Secondary) MOE schools.(Amongst the already identified 15 Schools targeted for infrastructure support and SMCs establishment) .School Management Communities (SMCs) will be constituted in all 15 MOE schools to identify construction, repair, water and sanitation and electrical needs to be addressed. Each school will be allocated grant for each MOE school which will be managed by the concerned SMC. The SMC will contribute to the school development in-kind by helping in addressing timely needs. The infrastructure support will be spearheaded by organizing SMCs to identify and address needs at each of the schools through effective tools of community mobilization.
