Afghan Refugees Teachers’ Profile Database, NWFP & Balochistan
In the changed scenario of a new Afghanistan, where massive work of rehabilitation and reconstruction is underway, education has become one of the priorities of the Afghan Government as well as that of the donor agencies. In 20 years of living as refugees in Pakistan, Afghans refugee schools are still following the same educational system (curricula, subjects, medium etc) that is compatible with their norms and values and which is also very much similar to the currant education system of Afghanistan.
Needs inside Afghanistan
Afghanistan will be faced with a shortage of 40,000 teachers in the new academic year which begins in March-April 2003. The exact academic qualifications of the teachers and the details of the available training facilities inside Afghanistan are not known. Nearly 5,000 Afghan trained teachers from North West Frontier Province (NWFP) and Balochistan refugee camps would be a good supply source.
