View AllBasic Education for Awareness, Reforms and Empowerment / Basic Education for Afghan Refugees (BEFARe) is a transformation of a bilateral project agreed between the Governments of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Federal Republic of Germany in 1989, for sustainable development in basic education. BEFARe was transformed into a national NGO under terms of the bilateral agreement and registered under the Trust and Societies Registration Act in 2003 & 2006 respectively, which further expanded its mandate. BEFARe has actively worked with Pakistan’s federal, provincial and local government departments and structures to successfully implement multi-sectoral programs in education, health, governance, energy conservation, democratization, irregular migration, sanitation, micro-finance and others, with the support of all the leading donors operating in Pakistan, namely; BMZ, EC, World Bank, World Vision – Pakistan, South Asia Regional Initiative, UNHCR, USAID, ILO, CIDA(AREP), CIDA(PIF), TAF, DFID, UNICEF, UNESCO, IOM and others. BEFARe programs are spread throughout the four provinces and FATA with organizational support from twelve offices located throughout the Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa, Punjab, Sindh and Baluchistan. During implementation of innovative interventions, BEFARe has gathered extensive knowledge on the overall socio-economic conditions, sector policies, strategies, institutional structures and procedures in the country.
