Project description

BEFARe, with the financial support of BPRM has initiated a vocational skill training program for Afghan refugees and Pakistani youth. The purpose of the project is to create better employment opportunities for the most underprivileged and underserved Afghan refugees and Pakistani host youth, by providing vocational skill trainings in demand driven trades in Peshawar, Mardan and Haripur districts.

Using successful models already implemented by BEFARe, BEFARe will collaborate with DG-TEMT, host and refugee communities to advertise quality skill training opportunities at target Government Vocational & Training Institutes (GVTI’s). The program will particularly focus on identifying and engaging youth that are unemployed and have little or no skills. This will also include madrassa students where majority of students are from most poor families and have little or no opportunities to acquire vocational skills training. BEFARe will target females through it community development officers in the area and utilizing its school management committees at Afghan refugee camps.

The project will provide demand driven market based (6 months duration) vocational skill training to 350 individuals (140 M & 210 F) including 75% Afghan Refugees and 25% from host communities. The proposed intervention is expected to equip trainees with skills that will enable them to pursue employment opportunities or adopt self-employment. BEFARe will also help link graduates with factories and industries for employment through career counseling. The trained students will be guided to avail the available micro finance schemes announced by the Government of Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa.

At the end of skill training courses, all the trainees will receive certificates and tool kits, issued by BEFARe and will also appear in Technical Testing Board (TTB) exams. BEFARe will liaise with Afghan Consulate and certificates awarded to Afghan Refugees will be counter signed by the Afghan consulate on behalf of Ministry of Technical Education of Afghanistan. This certificate will help them to find a job in Pakistan and after repatriation in Afghanistan.
